We can all use a little help from celebrity makeup artist Pati Dubroff in order to become the best versions of ourselves. A veteran in the industry, Dubroff works with an exclusive clientele, including Margot Robbie, whom she got red-carpet ready for the Oscars. A week prior, we caught up with her at Saks Fifth Avenue at Town Center at Boca Raton as she presented five beauty trends in the Saks Spring Beauty Book. Take your makeup to the next level with Dubroff’s must-have looks.
Glowing Skin
“Ideally one gets glowy skin by taking care of themselves with health and hydration and then skincare,” Dubroff says. “I would rather spend my money on high-end skincare than on clothes. If your face looks healthy and alive you can be wearing anything.” Accent beautiful skin with strategically placed highlighters and foundations that enhance and don’t dull the skin. Use face masks, creams and serums to achieve a glowing complexion.
Artistic Expression
“[Artistic expression is] using makeup as a piece of jewelry,” Dubroff says. “A bold slash of a purple on the eye or a bold slash of a green liner.” Dubroff recommends exploring a trend before going all out, especially if you’re afraid of using color. “There are ways to do it where it is flattering and not cheap looking,” she says.
Winged Liner
Don’t follow your natural eye shape when making a wing; draw an upward stroke and always use pencil first. Then go over it with a thicker pen, marker or cream liner.
Spider Eyes
The goal here is to apply a lot of mascara on upper and lower lashes. “It’s a really easy way to do kind of a cool eye and still look super fresh,” Dubroff says.
Two-toned Lip
Mix and layer colors for a pretty ombre. Use the idea of a two-toned lip as a way to build the contour of the lip or to make the lip shade more enhanced instead of flat.
