5 Valentine’s Day Activities In South Florida For Singles

781

Society has two stereotypical views toward Valentine’s Day: roses, chocolates and public displays of affection with a significant other; and watching sappy movies while consuming copious amounts of ice cream and various alcoholic beverages.

If the latter option hits close to home, break out of the outdated notion that Feb. 14 can only be enjoyed with a romantic partner. Here are five Valentine’s Day activities for singles in South Florida to enjoy either by yourself, with your best friends or accompanied by your pupper half.

Chase an adrenaline rush

Divide your squad into pairs, and head to Xtreme Action Park in Fort Lauderdale for some Valentine’s Day thrills. The largest indoor entertainment complex in Florida is offering Sweetheart Specials this Valentine’s Day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go all out with your closest friends.

People of all ages can choose from roller skating, Bakooza Blast, go-kart, a ropes course or the XD Dark Ride Theater. All Sweetheart Special packages include game cards for the arcade and a $10 voucher to refuel with pizza slices at the All-American Cafe, a sweet treat from the Hershey’s Shake Shoppe or drinks at The Pit Bar. The special is available online for $40 before Feb. 14, or in-person that day for $50.

Wine and dine at Coco Asian Bistro

Sushi, roses and chocolate — what more could you ask for on Valentine’s Day (or any day, for that matter)? Chef Mike Ponluang at Coco Asian Bistro in Fort Lauderdale has a special romance-themed evening planned, from delectable à la carte dishes on top of the regular menu and long-stemmed red roses for all ladies, to complimentary heart-shaped chocolate candy on every table.

The mouthwatering à la carte menu will include appetizers of foie gras with miso sauce served with tapioca chips, grilled shishito peppers and crispy baby bok choy; main courses of grilled King prawns with Shu-shee Thai curry sauce and jasmine rice, and seared otoro sushi in miso sauce served with jalapeño salsa; and house-made coconut ice cream to end the night on a sweet note. From 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., live entertainment by pianist Rich Hurt and singer Babylyn will accompany the romantic evening. Flowing libations are also available at Coco’s full bar.

Get pampered with your best furry friend

If your main squeeze is your four-legged, furry companion, why not celebrate Valentine’s Day by getting pampered together? Book a room at W Fort Lauderdale on Valentine’s Day weekend using the code “LUV” to receive different goodies for man’s best friend, including a limited edition W Fort Lauderdale dog bandana; food and water doggie bowls; a dog bed; tinkle turf pad; heart-shaped dog cookies; a Bark Box with toys; and a complimentary mini bottle of Moet Champagne for its paw-some parent, exclusive for Valentine’s Day weekend.

While you get pampered at W Fort Lauderdale’s new AWAY Spa or feast at El Vez or Steak 954, your pup will also be getting spoiled. The hotel’s doggie menu offers different treats, from a hamburger patty with diced pineapple or 8-ounce organic salmon filet to a banana and peanut butter coconut water smoothie.

Travel through time at the Downton Abbey Exhibition

Starting Feb. 14 and through the end of the month, the Downton Abbey Exhibition in West Palm Beach is offering two tickets for $60, or a docent-led, personalized 90-minute tour for two that comes with a complimentary souvenir guidebook for $198. Peruse through the hustle and bustle of Mrs. Patmore’s kitchen and the plethora of costumes featured in the award-winning show, and immerse yourself in the servants’ quarters, the family’s lavish dining room and Lady Mary’s elegant bedroom.

The packages must be booked 72 hours in advance, and they are available Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Feb. 14 to Feb. 28.

Get your sip on

Where significant others and love interests have failed us, cocktails have picked up the slack. Few things are better than good food, great drinks and even better company. On Feb. 14, indulge in specialty cocktails from South Florida’s finest eateries like Deck 84 in Delray Beach, where you can try their special Valentine’s Day drinks, like the Cupid’s Arrow Martini (Three Olives strawberry vodka, strawberry puree, pineapple juice and Champagne); XOXO Martini (Patron XO, Bailey’s and Monin vanilla syrup); or stick with the tried-and-true Frosé.

Head over to Nectar Lounge at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek for the Cupid’s Kiss, made with Heering cherry liqueur, sweet vermouth and orange garnished with an orange wedge and cherry. Cheers to a sweet Valentine’s Day!
