1036

Tired of shelling out for gas and harming the planet in the process? It may be time to go electric. Fortunately, South Florida is a popular spot for car shoppers to find eco-friendly luxury cars.

Stop by these six local dealerships and see if you can find the electric—or hybrid—whip of your dreams.

Karma Palm Beach

A revamped version of Fisker’s Karma, the 2018 Karma Revero is one of the most luxurious hybrid cars on the market. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery for up to 50 miles, at which point a gas-powered generator engages to power the remainder of the journey. According to Karma, “If you drive less than 50 miles per trip, you may never buy gas again. [Some] will buy less than a gallon of gas for every 100 miles driven. We are not perfect, but we do what we can to produce an ecologically sensitive product.” The Karma Revero has a total range of 300 miles and the base vehicle price is $130,000.

Tesla Store

Perhaps the best-known eco-friendly car option on the market today, Tesla has taken the auto industry by storm in recent years by producing consumer-friendly, fully electric vehicles. Now with four models on the road—the original Model S, the SUV-sized Model X, the famously affordable Model 3 and the discontinued Roadster—there are plenty of ways to hit the road without hurting the environment. Ecologically conscious car shoppers can browse Tesla selection in two local brick-and-mortar locations: the Tesla showroom at The Gardens Mall or the Tesla store in Riviera Beach.

Local Toyota Dealers

A Toyota Prius may not be the definition of luxury, but add enough upgrades and you can be cruising the streets in high style. One of the first hybrid cars to go mainstream, the Toyota Prius has been helping the planet for almost two decades. It’s one of the world’s most fuel-efficient vehicles without a plug, with an EPA-estimated 58 city (53 highway) mile-per-gallon fuel economy. For 2018, the Prius is offered in seven model grades, each equipped with safety features like a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert and intelligent park assist, which uses ultrasonic wave sensors to automatically steer into both parallel and perpendicular parking spaces.
