The Piper’s Angels Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis, a Jupiter-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting and improving the lives of people with cystic fibrosis through awareness, activities, financial support, and funding research, will host its signature event, The Crossing For Cystic Fibrosis, on Sunday, June 27.
During the fifth annual fundraiser, 150 paddlers will trek 80 miles from Bimini in The Bahamas to Lake Worth Beach. The organization’s founder, Travis Suit, conceived of the innovative idea because saltwater therapy has been shown to help those living with cystic fibrosis. What started as a paddle among Suit and three friends for the cause has grown to include thousands of participants, raising more than $1.3 million for the Piper’s Angels Foundation.
Among this year’s 150 participants is Scott Johnson, the Crossing’s first first-ever double lung transplant paddler. Johnson will join Suit’s team, aptly named “Double or Nothing,” to paddle in honor of his 20-year lung transplant anniversary.
To maintain safety for all participants, the Piper’s Angels Foundation’s medical director Dr. Ray Vasquez partnered with the City of Lake Worth Beach to create a COVID Mitigation Plan, with extra health and safety precautions in place.
The Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis is supported by title sponsor CELSIUS, as well as Margaritaville, 4ocean, Dixie Vodka, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals.
