A joint effort by two local foundations has given children a new setting for inpatient and outpatient care at Jupiter Medical Center.
The hospital’s new wing, the De George Pediatric Unit, opened Feb. 1 as a state-of-the-art center for healing and treatment. The center boasts 12 inpatient rooms, two surgery suites, a children’s playroom, therapeutic services and a resting room.
Plans for the pediatric unit had been in the scripts for years, all part of a dedicated effort to increase high-quality and cost-effective medical ventures in the area.
The Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation teamed up with the Lawrence J. and Florence A. De George Charitable Trust to make this center a reality.
“We strongly believe that there is nothing more important than helping children in need of medical care and supporting the families that love and care for these children,” golf icon Jack Nicklaus and his wife, Barbara, said in a joint statement. “In addition, it is gratifying to be able to help the children in our own neighborhood.”
Jupiter Medical Center and the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, part of the Miami Children’s Health System, will collaborate on bringing the most up-to-date treatments and committed doctors to the unit.
“The De George Pediatric Unit and the further expansion of our work with Jupiter Medical Center build on the vision we share with the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation to provide access to unparalleled care for the region’s children. It is part of our longstanding commitment to be where the children are in South Florida,” said Dr. M. Narendra Kini, CEO of Miami Children’s Health System.
