Denim Is Big For Fall, And Designer Rebecca Taylor Shares Why It’s OK To Love The Trend

Rebecca Taylor launches a new line inspired by her feminine spirit and the streets of Paris. Yes, there’s a whole lot of denim to be discussed.

What inspired you to create your new collection, La Vie Rebecca Taylor?
It’s been a long-term goal of mine to explore the more casual side of my design aesthetic. Also, I feel it’s a natural extension of the brand. Denim is having a moment; it’s become quite relevant again, and I think more and more, women today are dressing in a more casual way.

What does LA VIE mean?
“La Vie” in French means life. La Vie Rebecca Taylor is a lifestyle—it reimagines casual wear with approachable, versatile pieces that bring a hint of extraordinary to everyday dressing.

What do you enjoy most about being a fashion designer?
Going shopping and calling it work.

Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration all around me—in the books I read, movies I see, art, traveling, ballet, people in NYC. I find that there is never an absence of inspiration.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Creative, hard-working and fun sense of humor.

What do you love most about your new collection?
I love how the collection brings a sense of timeless cool to vintage-inspired denim and relaxed casual knits.

What are some of your favorite pieces?
When designing the denim, we wanted to create great denim pieces that felt femme cool and were very wearable. Every detail was considered—construction and fit is everything for denim. I absolutely love the high-waisted patched denim pant and the floral cotton ruffle blouse. The denim construction and wash is very unique. The floral print on the blouse is a quintessential Rebecca Taylor pattern and a must-have for the fall season.

What fabrics did you incorporate into your line?
Denim, twill, cotton, linen and lace.

Why do these pieces work well for fall?
They are perfect for layering, and the color palette is exactly what you will want to wear this fall.

Why is this line great for South Floridians?
The collection fabrics lend themselves to mild winters, such as crisp cottons, linens and denim.

When you’re not designing clothing, where can we find you?
Reading my Kindle or spending time with my three children and my husband at my Shelter Island home.

The La Vie Rebecca Taylor line is available exclusively at Rebecca Taylor stores, Nordstrom, rebeccataylor.com and shopbop.com
