Consider Donating To One Of These Local Animal Rescue Centers This Holiday Season

We've compiled a list of local animal rescue organizations but we know there are dozens, if not hundreds, more. This holiday season, consider donating to your favorite rescue center. You might just walk away with a new best friend.


Palm Beach

Big Dog Ranch Rescue 

As the largest no-kill dog rescue in the Southeastern United States, Big Dog's mission is to be a leader in the national animal welfare movement. Since the organization started in 2008, it has saved more than 12,000 dogs.

Tri-County Animal Rescue 

Spanning from Miami-Dade to Palm Beach, this no-kill, non-profit animal shelter works to prevent the killing of more than 170,000 pets across the tri-county area each year. Since opening in 2001, the center has saved more than 50,000 domestic animals from being euthanized, placing them in homes through the adoption center.

Pet Haven Rescue 

Owner Carole Chapuis Verrochi believes that dogs should be sheltered cage-free. Her philosophy led to Pet Haven Rescue, where all of the dogs reside in dormitories allowing them to socialize and create friendly packs without being confined to a cage. The Rescue has rehabilitated many dogs that have been deemed “lost causes.”

A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue 

Founded in October 2007, this non-profit has rescued more than 7,000 dogs and cats with an all-volunteer staff. The animals are cared for in foster homes until they are checked by a veterinarian, spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and deemed current on all vaccines. Once a clean bill of health is given, the adoption process begins.

Palm Beach Animal Care and Control 

A part of Palm Beach County government, the shelter was started in 1969 to provide animal law enforcement; facilitate pet adoption of stray and unwanted pets; enforce pet identification and micro-chipping; ensure rabies vaccinations; rescue abused domestic animals and more. Recently, Animal Care and Control rescued several hundreds of pigs, chickens, roosters and other animals from horrible living conditions at three farms.

Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue and Hospital 

In memory of animal lover Justin Bartlett, the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue was formed in 2012 to rescue, foster, adopt and promote humane animal education to prevent animal cruelty and provide veterinary medical assistance to local communities.

Save A Pet

Founded in 1978 by Gertrude Maxwell, volunteers with Save A Pet have rescued homeless or injured animals from parking lots, abandoned buildings and even car engines. Nearly every dog in the organization's foster program is recovering from an accident or illness.

Amber's Animal Outreach 

With two dogs of her own, a bunny and many reptiles, Amber Nelson is an animal lover. The Palm Beach teenager started Amber's Animal Outreach to serve dog owners and rescues by assisting with medical expenses, shelter care, rescue, fostering, training, dog supplies, spay and neuter surgeries and more.

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League

The Mission of the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League of the Palm Beaches is to provide shelter to lost, homeless and unwanted animals; to provide spay and neuter and other medical services for companion animal; to care for, protect, and find quality homes for homeless and neglected companion animals; and to advocate animal welfare, community involvement and education to further the bond between people and animals. The League is an independent non-profit animal rescue organization operating continuously since 1925.


Treasure Coast

All Paws Matter 

With a network of volunteers, All Paws Matter provides direct rescue and rescue support to non-profits and organizations on the Treasure Coast to end the killing of homeless cats and dogs.

Nala's New Life Rescue 

A foster-based rescue, Nala's rescues companion animals including dogs, cats and horses that have been abused, forgotten, rejected or abandoned. Help out by donating your time to feed and care for the animals.

Caring Fields Felines 

Established in 2000, Caring Fields Felines is a no-kill feline rescue and adoption organization that aims to create a better world for cats through adoption, spay/neuter services and public education. At “home base” in Palm City, more than 150 cats live cage-free in an open environment in colorful cottages and cat shelters.

Domino's Cat Rescue League 

We know you love those addicting cat videos, so turn that attention to Domino's Cat Rescue League, a no-kill, cage-free center in Palm City. The League offers a healthy, safe and loving environment for kittens and cats

Dogs & Cats Forever 

Organized in 1988, this Fort Pierce shelter aims to find good, adoptable and loving homes for homeless dogs and cats on the Treasure Coast

Spay Neuter Alliance of the Treasure Coast 

Comprised of animal rescue organizations in Martin and St. Lucie counties, the alliance aims to increase the number of animals being spayed and neutered through no- or low-cost services. Participating groups include Dogs and Cats Forever, Humane Society of St. Lucie County, United for Animals, Dominos House, Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, All Pet Rescue, Animal Birth Control and more.

Humane Society of the Treasure Coast 

As an open admission shelter, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast accepts all animals regardless of health, age, temperament or breed. In 2013, the Humane Society facilitated more than 2,000 adoptions and performed more than 2,300 spay and neuter surgeries.

Furry Friends Animal Rescue and Clinic 

Started in 1985, the clinic has an adoption facility in Jupiter and a 27-acre ranch in Palm City where cats, dogs and horses can live in a rural environment. The Furry Friends veterinary hospital also provides affordable health care services for the public, including low-cost spay/neuter surgeries.



Rottie Nation 

Rottweilers aren't for the faint-hearted, but this pet will protect and guard your family with its life. Rottie Nation's words of advice: Be firm and consistent with your rottie. Based on the Southwest Coast in Naples, this organization aims to rescue, rehabilitate, spay or neuter, and re-home abandoned or owner-surrendered Rottweilers.

Pit Bull Happenings 

Adopt, volunteer, foster or donate to help pit bulls in Florida. This foster home-based rescue organization helps connect rescue dogs with foster families, facilitates adoptions of pit bulls and helps build awareness and respect for the breed.

Greyhound Pet Adoption 

Helping greyhounds that are no longer qualified for the racetrack, this organization finds responsible, loving homes for racing greyhounds. The organization maintains a kennel for up to nine greyhounds at a time, and is constantly in need of volunteers.

Coastal Boxer Rescue 

Founded in 2005 in Melbourne, Coastal Boxer rescues and cares for more than 100 abused, abandoned or neglected boxers each year. With no shelter, all of the dogs are housed with dedicated foster homes until a forever-home is found.
