If you’re like most homeowners, shopping for decor and furnishings is a guilty pleasure. You spot one turquoise lamp that would be darling in the guest bedroom, then an art deco painting ideal for the home office catches your eye, and soon, you’re leaving with enough to re-design multiple spaces.
It’s especially hard to walk out empty-handed at Marie Antoinette’s Furniture in Harbourside Place, which is celebrating its one-year anniversary this month.
AT A GLANCE
If the store’s name sounds familiar, that’s because owner Antoinetta Peterson has been in business for more than 20 years serving North Palm Beach, Jupiter and Tequesta. She opened two locations prior to Harbourside Place, each store slightly different than the next.
Inside, shoppers can find an array of brand new items for indoor and outdoor spaces that will correspond with styles from coastal, to shabby chic, to traditional with an edge, to upscale beachy, to mid-century modern.
“We keep the floor constantly changing, that way there will always be something new for everyone to see,” says Katrina Peterson, manager and apprentice to Antoinetta. “You will find that perfectly unique piece that will turn your house into a home. The styles carried and the mix is unmistakably different from any other furniture store. [It’s] a real source of pride for us.”
Shop dining room tables, framed abstract art, rattan chairs and solid wood mirrored dressers, to settee seaters, decorative mirrors and worldly accessories that will complete any space. If you’re lucky, you might even spot rare pieces like a 100-year-old intricately painted cabinet from Thailand, or rustic bistro tables brought in from Italy. An array of linens are also offered, such as 1,000-thread-count sheets, silk quilts and even luxurious towels.
INTERIOR DECORATING NEEDS
Marie Antoinette’s also offers a design team for interior consulting and decorating assistance. “Customers [can] come into any of our three locations, and if they see pieces that they would like to purchase but are unsure of how it will fit, or want someone to help them put it all together, that’s where we come in,” Katrina says. “We are happy to share our expertise either in the stores or at their houses.”
