During This Christmas Light Tour With High Point Paddle Adventures, Scope Out Holiday Houses Along North Palm Waterways
Take a holiday tour of North Palm Beach's most decked-out waterfront homes—by paddleboard.
Singer Island-based High Point Paddle Adventures is leading a Christmas Light Paddle tour launching from Anchorage Park on Saturday, Dec. 17. It'll take glow stick-wearing paddlers on a nighttime ride through the canals of North Palm Beach to see all of the waterfront residences' holiday decor. Beginners are welcome.
"There's some really, really exquisite light displays," High Point Paddle owner Alexis Lautzker said.
She added there could also be opportunities to see boats that are still decorated from the holiday boat parade.
Paddleboard instructor Julie Allen of JAH Arts, who hosted the inaugural holiday paddle tour four years ago, and California-based surf shop BruSurf, for which Lautzker is a distributor, are co-sponsoring the event. About 25 people participated in last year's ride, and Lautzker expects nearly 40 attendees this weekend.
It costs $35 to rent a paddleboard and participate. Guests are also asked to bring a new toy to donate to Kiting for Kids, a Jupiter nonprofit that supports local children battling cancer and other illnesses.
Participants will congregate at Anchorage Park at 4:30 p.m. for a quick, on-land briefing an hour before sundown. Beginners or other guests with limited evening paddle experience will also be given an in-water lesson before the group goes out. Then it's on to a leisurely three hours on the water.
Paddlers will ride in and out of canals to check out the holiday homes and will ultimately vote for their favorite at the end of the night. During the ride, the group will also find a spot in the open water to spend time hanging out on their boards and enjoying a snack or water break.
"I recommend a small cooler so they can have some water, some cheese, something that's easy to eat on the board," Lautzker said.
Last year, one guest even brought plastic flutes and a bottle of prosecco, according to Lautzker.
Lautzker says the annual Christmas Light Paddle has become one of her favorite events of the year, and it's easy to see why.
"[I enjoy] getting everybody out in the spirit of the holidays and enjoying the hard work that other people put into making their homes festive, and just the camaraderie of the paddlers out on the water," she said.
