Get Your Shopping Fix At Jupiter-Area Boutiques, And Enjoy All Our December Issue Has To Offer
I love this time of year, not just for the holiday fetes, festivals and food free-for-alls, but let’s face it—for the shopping!
Inevitably, while I’m out shopping for those on my Christmas list, I shop for myself too. It’s the “one-for-you, two-for-me” mentality. I can’t help myself; it’s much easier to buy for me than anyone else on my list! Plus, it eases the burden on my husband, so it’s not entirely selfish. There’s a certain ceremony to shopping, a communal experience that takes you away from the isolation of a computer screen and into the real world. (Plus, it provides instant gratification.) It’s that much needed “me-time” or “girl-time,” and it qualifies as therapy for crying out loud!
With brick-and-mortar stores, today’s consumers are looking for a whole shopping experience—a feel, a look, a brand that epitomizes them, and sometimes a philosophy they can stand behind, versus a quick e-commerce fix from your tablet. From coastal chic to classic Palm Beach, whimsy to worldly, and modern to traditional, our area’s boutiques offer carefully curated collections to complement every closet or household. Get out and enjoy the pleasure of browsing with your girlfriends. (Or shop with your spouse while he waits in that designated man-chair.) Shop locally with our guide, and keep the greenbacks in our own backyards while supporting local small business owners and entrepreneurs.
The Palm Beaches has no shortage of local entrepreneurs doing big things. From creating tasty treats and hand-painted purses to owning and operating multiple successful retail stores, these local visionaries are an inspiration to us all and a sweet reminder that the American dream is still alive and well. Living out his American dream is the “Stud of the Sea,” Captain Lee!
The accidental actor on the reality TV series “Below Deck” sees himself as just another boat captain who gets filmed doing his job. I had the pleasure of meeting him recently at a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis, and he’s just that—a humble, hardworking boat captain who got his celebrity status by happenstance and is having a ball with it. See him at this month’s Winterfest Boat Parade in Fort Lauderdale, where he’s honored to be the official captain, aka “Stud.”
In keeping with our Local Luxe theme for December, nothing signifies culinary luxury like the “tartufo bianco,” or white truffle. Only available for a few months of the year, the delicacy is in the height of its short season and is in high demand. The precious commodity, becoming increasingly more scarce, will be shaved and served at only the finest restaurants this season, and at $2,000 a pound, chefs and discerning palettes agree—there’s nothing quite like them and they are worth every penny. So after a long day shopping at our area retailers and boutiques, splurge some more and enjoy the culinary pleasures of this “Pearl of Alba.”
Enjoy, and put a little luxe in your holiday season!
