Heaven on earth with an onion slice. That’s what I think of as I sit outside on a chaise lounge under my tiki hut on a breezy September Sunday afternoon, listening to nothing but the swaying coconut palm trees overhead. While I’ll forgo the onion slice, I’ll take a cheeseburger in paradise over foie gras in France any day.
After 18 years of living in the Palm Beaches, the view of paradise never gets old and the endless beauty never ceases to amaze me. From my tropical perch off of Donald Ross Road, the landscape has changed many times, and I’ve seen much development occur, most of it well-intentioned and positive. Growth is inevitable and after the real estate bust in 2008, it’s a welcome sign that South Florida is back … with a boom!
And, we’re back in season, one month earlier with our new October issue – a first time for our editorial lineup. This Land and Sea Issue – celebrating all of the new growth and development occurring in the Palm Beaches, from the exciting new commercial projects like Harbourside Place in Jupiter and the Palm Beach Outlets in West Palm Beach, to new residential developments offering up choice waterfront options (some previously defunct), to national retailers and gourmet grocers vying over a slice of paradise. With one common denominator – how to tastefully develop what is left of our precious commodities, priceless land and precious waterfront – we’ll show you how your view (and your options) will soon be changing – for the better.
If your ideal view is of panoramic ocean vistas best seen from the back of a superyacht, but you’re not ready to plunge into ownership, check out Group Publisher Bernard McCormick’s article on yacht chartering, “Try Before You Buy.” With the plethora of charter brokers in South Florida, you can walk on and walk off the yacht and leave the maintenance, menu planning and maneuvering up to the crew.
It took a crew of laborers and a labor of love to restore an old, 45-foot Rybovich to pristine condition, but for two local boating enthusiasts, it was well worth it. Check out the making of Big Blue in “Rocking the Boat.”
Although we are heading into fall, we couldn’t resist showcasing nautical fashion, shot aboard HMY’s 82-foot Princess, exemplifying South Florida’s leisurely, luxe lifestyle. To see all that goes into the making of such gorgeous images, check out our behind the scenes video from the seafaring fashion shoot on our digital and tablet editions.
Whether you’re enjoying our area’s bounty by land or by sea, take us with you in print or on your tablet, and stop and enjoy a cheeseburger in paradise!
