Listeners of The Mo & Sally Show may be surprised to learn that the beloved radio couple was once embroiled in a scandal. In 1992, they were both working at radio station K92 in Roanoke, Virginia—Sevareid as a morning host and Foster on nights. “We were dating at the time, but nobody knew it,” says Foster. When Sevareid’s cohost left, Foster took his place, and it became harder to keep their secret in the small community. “People would see us out, and there were rumors like, ‘Maybe they’re cheating on their spouses!’ recalls Foster. “When we finally came out as a couple, it made the news. Yeah, it was pretty big.” Foster and Sevareid married in 1994.

A native Virginian and a 1985 graduate of Virginia Tech, Sevareid worked in radio and TV news in Myrtle Beach, Richmond, and Cleveland before landing at K92 in 1988. Originally from Dallas, Foster cut his teeth at various stations in Texas, as well as the Satellite Music Network, before joining Sevareid
at K92 in 1992.

In 1999, the couple received a message from a consultant who was looking for a morning show for a station in West Palm Beach. “We came down to interview, and I had stone crabs for the first time in my life,” says Sevareid. “I said to Mo, ‘We have to move here.’” They accepted the morning show job at Mix 102.3—but two years later, they lost the gig. They found out they were being let go by reading about it in The Palm Beach Post. “Management kind of botched that one,” says Foster.

Within 24 hours, they got a call from the owner of 97.9 WRMF, offering to put their morning show on at night. “We had a blast,” recalls Foster. “Everyone was happy until he sold the station.” Adds Sevareid: “And we were fired again.” A few months later, iHeart offered them the morning show on Today’s KOOL 105.5, where they’ve been since 2003.

Listeners of the popular show enjoy hearing about the day-to-day antics of the Palm Beach Gardens couple—home improvements, golf, foodie adventures, and the nuances of married life. “Long ago, we established that we were going to be an escape, so we don’t do anything serious,” says Foster. “I like to think of it as Everybody Loves Raymond on the radio.” The secret to their success both working together and in marriage? Foster answers without missing a beat: “Wine.”
