Never doubt the power of a bake sale. One of the most remarkable outcomes of the global slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is witnessing communities take the time to support people in need and thank local heroes. The team at Sloane Staffing, the downtown West Palm Beach-based recruitment agency, decided to make a difference. Like many of us during quarantine, the team members have spent time perfecting their baking recipes at home and had some treats to spare. They sold their homemade cookies, brownies, and breads to at a neighborhood bake sale, which raised more than $1000.
The team took the proceeds from the bake sale to Jersey Mike’s, which matched the donation by 20 percent, and where staff crafted 100 sandwich lunches for to local hospitals. The team brought 50 sandwiches to Jupiter Medical Center and 50 sandwiches to Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, where healthcare professionals are putting their lives on the line to treat coronavirus. The lunches were a “thank you” to the hospitals’ staffs during these unprecedented times.
