If you’re playing the dating game in South Florida, then you know it’s not easy to navigate.

There are plenty of attractive, intelligent and fun people to date in the area, but finding a real connection here—and really anywhere—can be difficult. South Florida is a unique place and with that comes a different dating scene.

The below list consists of common complaints that Kelly Leary, a South Florida dating expert who has more than 26 years of experience, hears from her clients on a regular basis. Can you relate to these common dating problems faced by South Florida bachelors and bachelorettes?

1. Hope Feels Lost

“Are there any quality singles to be found in South Florida?” you yell into the abyss. Finding genuine and sincere singles who are also serious about starting a relationship is daunting; especially in an area with a dense population. The South Florida culture promotes an attractive and healthy lifestyle and there are a lot of good looking fish in the sea, but getting the right ones to bite is tricky.

2. Finger Cramps From All The Swiping

Online dating is tiring (we’re looking at you Tinder and Bumble). You’re lucky if the photos in an online profile match the person in real life. Dating apps promote judging someone’s personality and interests off of looks alone. Of course you should be attracted to your mate, but meaningful dating is based off more than just appearances.

3. Mask On, Mask Off

First impressions are important, but they can also be misleading. Most of the time, the person isn’t trying to be malicious, but other times it can seem like your date is purposefully putting up a front. Figuring out who they really are is a frustrating process, especially if you come to find that you don’t even like the person behind the mask.

4. Forever Alone

Been single for a while? Think you’re going to stay that way, regardless of your best efforts? If you’re happy playing the dating game, then being single can be fun, but if you’re ready to settle down it’s hard not to feel the tick of time.

5. More Money, More Problems

South Florida has an affluent community. After all, Fort Lauderdale is the yachting capital of the world. Dating luxuriously can be a perk of romance, but with it comes many questions for the person holding the wallet. Does my date have a hidden agenda? Is he/she after me only for financial gains?

6. Broken Vows

You’re at a bar, flirting with a cute stranger, and thinking, “Wow, this is going really well.” That is, until you see the wedding ring. This is a common problem everywhere, and South Florida is no exception. Many married men and women are online and in bars looking for a little fun—without their spouse. Spotting them is even harder when they remember to take their rings off.

7. Another Notch In The Headboard

Nothing’s worse than going on a date with the intent to get to know someone and then you find out your date only has one goal in mind. Enough said.

8. Arm Candy Only

Some people date with no real intention of finding love, and that’s OK—as long as both parties agree to that. But if you want more than just another attractive companion to take out on the town, then dating someone who isn’t looking for commitment isn’t the best choice.

9. Excess Baggage Fees

Everyone has a past, and everyone has baggage to carry, but those with a chip on their shoulder make it harder than it needs to be. If you’re dating someone like this, you may wonder, “Will they ever trust me?” or “Will they ever stop complaining about their ex?” It’s all up in the air.

10. Pants on Fire

Relationships and dating are hard, and trying to decipher if someone’s telling you the truth makes it difficult. What’s worse is believing a lie, and finding out it isn’t true after the fact. Note to all bachelors and bachelorettes: the truth will set you free.
