We all know the feeling: You pack for a trip only to get to the destination and feel like there’s nothing in the suitcase you actually want to wear. When Rozz Paxson traveled to Costa Rica for her son’s mission trip, she was disappointed by the attire she was now committed to. “I [didn’t] have anything I wanted, like my wedges, my cover-ups,” she recalls. Paxson was planning on leaving her corporate job, and this was the a-ha moment when she thought up the idea to create a one-stop shop for vacation clothing and accessories. Next came the opening of her boutique, The Sandal Shop.

On a Monday afternoon, Paxson is dressed head-to-toe in fashionable pieces that can be found throughout her North Palm Beach store, including chic sparkling starfish sandals. She’s been outfitting locals and out-of-towners for nearly six years.

What started out as a flip-flops shop soon turned into a store that sells everything from fun island couture to jewelry and accessories. There is a selection of sandals for men and even a sandal selection for tiny feet.

“We try to take care of our customers No. 1, and keep it light and fun and also reasonable,” Paxson says.

What to Expect

If you’re headed on vacation and don’t know what to pack, you can find peace of mind at The Sandal Shop. “Some of my customers will bring their luggage and say, ‘I’m going on a cruise’ and literally shop their entire attire,” she says laughing. “We have a ton of people we personal shop with. They’ll text me, and I come and meet them here.”

Upon entering the store, seasoned and soon-to-be shoppers alike find a huge selection of sandals outlining the walls, including brands Ipanema, Oka-B and Cobian.

The Sandal Shop offers a mixture of clothing to reach everyone’s tastes and everyone’s needs, so you can feel confident attending an island wedding or spending a day around town.

Shop Escapada dresses in bright prints, linens from Greece and all styles of cover-ups. Plus, find an assortment of trendy purses, travel-friendly sun hats, jewelry and sunglasses, to items that make for a perfect gift such as scented candles and beach towels. “We try to think of everything a person may need or want,” Paxson says.

The Sandal Shop also gives back to the community by donating proceeds from purchases to certain organizations several times throughout the year. “I’ve been so blessed. I feel that we should give back as much as we can,” Paxson says. Guests can also host events like book club meet-ups, birthday parties and more.
