The Woods Jupiter’s Upscale Take On A Traditional Sports Bar Will Bring You Back For Another Round

The name might drive you through the door, but the upscale take on a traditional sports bar will bring you back, round after round.

The Woods Jupiter, owned and conceptualized by pro golfer Tiger Woods, joined Harbourside Place in August. The corner spot boasts 42 TVs, wrapped around the central bar and scattered throughout the dining room; 1,500 bottles of wine, displayed in a lit case along the back wall; and even a pro shop, boasting Nike attire. It all works to satisfy Woods’ vision.

“I’ve been to a lot of restaurants around the world, and this is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Woods says. “I enjoy places where I can watch sports, but I wanted it to be a lot more.”

Why Jupiter

Woods, who lives on Jupiter Island, began visualizing the restaurant a few years ago when Harbourside Place started taking off. “The people and the environment are great,” Woods says. “Everyone is very friendly and considerate, and the surroundings are beautiful.”

The inside of the bar and dining room is beautiful, too. Splashes of wood accents meet black light fixtures that sprout from the ceiling like branches. Illuminated white marble at the center of the bar showcases liquor bottles; booths offer curtains for privacy, and their own TVs; and live music often spills onto the outside patio when there’s a performance at the amphitheater.

Your way around the menu

The Woods offers an environment where people want to eat, and work. It received 1,200 applications, but narrowed its troops down to 70 hires. Among the ranks is head chef Carmine Dicandia, who comes from Capital Grille.

Dicandia satisfied the sporty upscale fusion concept by creating a menu full of twists. Take the spicy calamari for example. The dish is done like a basket of wings—doused in house-made mild sauce and complemented with blue cheese crumbles. Order the appetizer for $8 during the daily happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 11 p.m., and pair it with a $7 cocktail. Other menu favorites include the rib-eye steak sandwich, sitting on a toasted French baguette wearing balsamic onions, drunken cheese and heirloom tomatoes; and the New Zealand rack of lamb, covered in an espresso rub and served with chocolate cherry gastrique.

You’re going to want dessert

Again incorporating traditionally casual foods with more decadent spins, the dessert menu offers The Woods cotton candy, or the S’Mores Casserole baked like Tiramisu and served with graham crackers for dipping. The best-seller, however, is a chocolate stout cake sprinkled with candied bacon and served with a dulce de leche Bailey’s sauce.
