Ways To Support The Bahamas After Hurricane Dorian

Hurricane Dorian left devastation as it swept through the Bahamas after its descent as a Category 5. The storm unleashed catastrophe on the islands, leaving seven people confirmed dead, houses demolished and storm surges that rose 12 to 18 feet above normal tide levels that left streets flooded.

Many places in South Florida are spearheading disaster relief aid for the islands. From Miami-Dade to Martin County, here are places in South Florida where you can donate supplies and help the Bahamas recover after Hurricane Dorian.

  • The National Association of the Bahamas has created an online fund for Bahama relief donations. You can also drop off supplies at:
    • Synergy Shipping – 4765 NW 103 Ave., Sunrise
    • Sands Harbor Resort & Marina – 125 N. Riverside Drive, Pompano Beach
    • Christ Episcopal Church – 3481 Hibiscus Church, Coconut Grove
  • Food for the Poor will be accepting canned meats, canned fish, canned milk (evaporated and condensed) and disposable diapers to its Coconut Creek warehouse located at 6401 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek; 954-427-2222. You can also donate to Bahama relief online
    • In cooperation with Food for the Poor, canned goods and diapers can be dropped off at Christ Church located at 4845 NE 25th Ave., Fort Lauderdale, from Sept. 4 through Sept. 8. Items can be brought to the church breezeway or the church office.
  • Nautical Ventures Marine Superstore has created a GoFundMe for Bahama Relief. One hundred percent of donations will go directly to support relief and recovery efforts in areas affected by Hurricane Dorian. Locations in Broward and Palm Beach are also collecting donations such as canned goods, water, medicine, etc. to be sent to the Bahamas.
  • Koinonia Worship Center located at 4900 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., Pembroke Park is collections donations including medical supplies, personal hygiene products, flashlights, batteries and trash bags.

  • Orange Theory Fort Lauderdale will be collecting in-studio donations until noon on Thursday, Sept. 5. at 1835 Cordova Road, Fort Lauderdale; 954-765-6014.

  • The City of Miami has organized a Bahama relief effort called BahamaStrong. All 16 City of Miami fire stations are accepting donations to help Hurricane Dorian relief in the Bahamas. Items can also be dropped off at Greater St. Paul AME Church at 3680 Thomas Ave. and Christ Episcopal Church at 3475 William Ave. in Miami. Items needed are:

    • Water

    • Canned goods

    • Can openers

    • Mosquito spray

    • Sunscreen

    • Diapers

    • Baby formula

    • First aid items

    • Flashlights

    • Batteries

    • Small generators

  • The Global Empowerment Mission is collecting donations from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day at their warehouse located at 340 NW 59th Terrace in Miami.

  • The Miami-Dade County Fair is raising money through GoFundMe for Bahama relief, as well as working with Bahamian authorities to ensure that 100 percent of all proceeds will directly aid Bahamian victims of Hurricane Dorian.

  • A group of boaters and residents in Palm Beach County who frequently visit the Bahamas have started a Facebook group called Hurricane Dorian Bahamas Relief. They will be collecting supplies at Island Tyme Charters at the Palm Beach County Park/Lantana Airport located at 2633 Lantana Road in Lake Worth when it’s reopened. Items needed are among the following:

    • Empty five-gallon gas tanks

    • Extension cords

    • Chainsaws

    • Tarps that are new and folded

    • Portable fans

    • Tents, batteries, flashlights, lanterns

    • Diapers

    • Toilet paper

    • Toiletries and personal hygiene products

    • Feminine supplies

    • Baby food and dog food

    • Water, drinks and non-perishable food

    • Water purification tablets

    • Rubber gloves

  • Other drop-off locations for Hurricane Dorian Bahamas Relief group include:

    • West Marine 3554 NW Federal Hwy., Jensen Beach – 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Bahama recovery donations can be brought to the Stuart Police Department located at 830 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Stuart starting on Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Delivery to the Bahamas is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 6. 

  • Lifestyle Miami is collecting canned goods, water, first-aid kits and recovery supplies at the following locations:

    • Main office – 5161 NW 79th Ave., Doral

    • Molinas Ranch – 4090 E. 8th Ave., Hialeah

    • Oasis Solutions – 600 1. NW 153rd St., Ste. 162, Miami Lakes

  • The Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall Social & Economic Institute located at 5120 NW 24th Ave., Miami is collecting supplies. Online donations are also being accepted.
  • The following location is also collecting supplies:

  • Palm Beach Outlets (located at 1751 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., West Palm Beach) is hosting a relief drive to collect supplies on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. Visitors can drop items off at the customer service desk located inside the food pavilion. The following supplies are needed:
    • First-aid kits
    • Cleaning supplies
    • Canned goods
    • Box fans
    • Flashlights
    • Leather work gloves
    • Hand sanitizer
    • Non-perishable food
    • Water
    • Tarps
    • Tents
    • Toiletries
    • Diapers
    • Wipes (for adults and babies)
  • Rotary Club District 6990 is accepting donations at any Dignity Memorial location in Broward County and South Palm Beach. 
  • The City of Margate is collecting supplies starting Wednesday, Sept. 4 through Friday, Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following locations:
    • Margate Police Department: 5790 Margate Blvd.
    • Fire Station 18: 5785 Park Drive, Margate
    • Fire Station 58: 600 N. Rock Island Road, Margate
    • Fire Station 98: 5395 NW 24th St., Margate

  • The Bahamian government has requested all donations supplied to the City of Margate be limited to the following:
    • Water
    • Non-perishable foods
    • Hygiene kits (tissue, toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels, sanitary napkins)
    • Cleaning supplies (bleach, mops, brooms, garbage bags, sponges, clothespins)
    • Disinfectants
    • Baby food and formula
    • Blankets
    • Flashlights
    • Batteries
    • Mosquito repellent (DEET-free)
    • First-aid kits (bandages, gauze and tape)
  • Press and Grind Café (474 N. Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale) is collecting donations to aid the Bahamas in Hurricane Dorian relief from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday, Sept. 6. Alongside several customers in the yachting industry, the restaurant will send supplies through several boats sailing from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas this Saturday, Sept. 7. Monetary donations are encouraged, too, with 100 percent of donations going to hurricane relief supplies for Abaco. Any donations not used on supplies will be directly donated to Hope Town Volunteer Fire & Rescue in the Bahamas.
  • In Pembroke Pines, donations (first-aid items, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste/toothbrushes, flashlights, batteries, water, canned goods, can openers and baby food) can be dropped off at multiple locations:
    • Charles F. Dodge City Center – 601 City Center Way, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Southwest Focal Point Center – 301 NW 103rd Ave., Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Donations can be dropped off at the following fire stations everyday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

    • Fire station #69 – 9500 Pines Blvd.
    • Fire station #79 – 19900 Pines Blvd.

  • Stuart Jet Center is working with Stuart Sailfish Club Foundation, Blue Marlin Cove Resort & Marina, and U.S. and Bahamian Customs to bring life-saving provisions to the hardest hit areas of the Bahamas. The Stuart Sailfish Club will be accepting donations as of Thursday at the Tiki Hut Pavilion located at 3867 SE Evan’s Terrace, Stuart, or you can visit its Facebook page to make a financial donation. As a 501(c)(3), your donations are tax deductible. If you would like to volunteer to load planes or sort donations, please contact the Stuart Sailfish Club at 772-286-9373. Supplies requested:

  • A group of Broward-based business and community leaders have created “Hope 4 Hope Town,” where they have secured various boats and aircrafts to send supplies and assistance to the Bahamas. They are asking people to donate items they already have rather than buy additional supplies. You can also donate to its online fund through The Roger Jennings Davis Memorial Fund, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization working alongside with Songwriters In Paradise Hope Town. Drop-off locations include:
    • The Riverside Market – 608 SW 12th Ave., Fort Lauderdale
