Hurricane Dorian left devastation as it swept through the Bahamas after its descent as a Category 5. The storm unleashed catastrophe on the islands, leaving seven people confirmed dead, houses demolished and storm surges that rose 12 to 18 feet above normal tide levels that left streets flooded.
Many places in South Florida are spearheading disaster relief aid for the islands. From Miami-Dade to Martin County, here are places in South Florida where you can donate supplies and help the Bahamas recover after Hurricane Dorian.
- The National Association of the Bahamas has created an online fund for Bahama relief donations. You can also drop off supplies at:
- Synergy Shipping – 4765 NW 103 Ave., Sunrise
- Sands Harbor Resort & Marina – 125 N. Riverside Drive, Pompano Beach
- Christ Episcopal Church – 3481 Hibiscus Church, Coconut Grove
- Food for the Poor will be accepting canned meats, canned fish, canned milk (evaporated and condensed) and disposable diapers to its Coconut Creek warehouse located at 6401 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek; 954-427-2222. You can also donate to Bahama relief online.
- In cooperation with Food for the Poor, canned goods and diapers can be dropped off at Christ Church located at 4845 NE 25th Ave., Fort Lauderdale, from Sept. 4 through Sept. 8. Items can be brought to the church breezeway or the church office.
- Nautical Ventures Marine Superstore has created a GoFundMe for Bahama Relief. One hundred percent of donations will go directly to support relief and recovery efforts in areas affected by Hurricane Dorian. Locations in Broward and Palm Beach are also collecting donations such as canned goods, water, medicine, etc. to be sent to the Bahamas.

Orange Theory Fort Lauderdale will be collecting in-studio donations until noon on Thursday, Sept. 5. at 1835 Cordova Road, Fort Lauderdale; 954-765-6014.
The City of Miami has organized a Bahama relief effort called BahamaStrong. All 16 City of Miami fire stations are accepting donations to help Hurricane Dorian relief in the Bahamas. Items can also be dropped off at Greater St. Paul AME Church at 3680 Thomas Ave. and Christ Episcopal Church at 3475 William Ave. in Miami. Items needed are:

The Miami-Dade County Fair is raising money through GoFundMe for Bahama relief, as well as working with Bahamian authorities to ensure that 100 percent of all proceeds will directly aid Bahamian victims of Hurricane Dorian.
A group of boaters and residents in Palm Beach County who frequently visit the Bahamas have started a Facebook group called Hurricane Dorian Bahamas Relief. They will be collecting supplies at Island Tyme Charters at the Palm Beach County Park/Lantana Airport located at 2633 Lantana Road in Lake Worth when it’s reopened. Items needed are among the following:

Alongside several customers in the yachting industry, the restaurant will send supplies through several boats sailing from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas this Saturday, Sept. 7. Monetary donations are encouraged, too, with 100 percent of donations going to hurricane relief supplies for Abaco. Any donations not used on supplies will be directly donated to Hope Town Volunteer Fire & Rescue in the Bahamas.
- In Pembroke Pines, donations (first-aid items, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste/toothbrushes, flashlights, batteries, water, canned goods, can openers and baby food) can be dropped off at multiple locations:

The Stuart Sailfish Club will be accepting donations as of Thursday at the Tiki Hut Pavilion located at 3867 SE Evan’s Terrace, Stuart, or you can visit its Facebook page to make a financial donation. - A group of Broward-based business and community leaders have created “Hope 4 Hope Town,” where they have secured various boats and aircrafts to send supplies and assistance to the Bahamas. They are asking people to donate items they already have rather than buy additional supplies. You can also donate to its online fund through The Roger Jennings Davis Memorial Fund, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization working alongside with Songwriters In Paradise Hope Town.
