In honor of National Oyster Day (August 5), Lucky Shuck Oyster Bar & Taphouse in Jupiter will host the fourth annual South Florida’s Shucking Best Oyster Eating Contest August 2. Joe Namath will attendance to cheer on participants.

Participants will have 90 seconds to eat as many oysters as possible. A tray of 36 oysters will be served at the start of the contest, and additional oysters will be available if needed. The oysters must be swallowed to be counted, and they must stay down to win. In the event of a tie, the first person to finish an additional dozen oysters wins.

The first place winner will receive a $150 cash prize and a $200 gift card to use at any of the three venues at Charlie & Joe’s at Love Street. Second place wins a $150 gift card and third place wins a $100 gift card. The current Jupiter record to beat is 103 oysters in 90 seconds.

The throwdown is limited to 25 participants who must register by visiting luckyshuckjupiter.com. There is a $20 registration fee that will benefit the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum. Sign in begins at 4:30 p.m. and the event kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
