Sant Ambroeus Palm Beach Offers Guests Both A Fine-Dining Experience And Casual Cafe To Enjoy Any Time Of Week

Stop in for an espresso and panino, and return for a fine-dining experience.

Owners Teresa Borella and Italo Cattaneo opened Sant Ambroeus in Milan, Italy, in 1936, serving traditional Milanese cuisine before starting a name for themselves in America on Madison Avenue in New York City. Additional locations followed in West Village, Southampton and SoHo, becoming the place where locals and socialites gathered to enjoy an espresso and read the morning newspaper.

Fast forward and Sant Ambroeus has once again opened its doors in a new location—expanding from New York to Palm Beach’s Royal Poinciana Plaza in December.

The Experience

A step inside the casual yet elegant environment takes guests back to the 1960s. Tables are draped in crisp white tablecloths, while furniture colors range from olive greens, oranges and reds, to pastel pinks and blues. The dining room is lit with elegant chandeliers, and mirrors, sconces and wood paneling adorn the walls. Classical music plays throughout the restaurant, offering a cozy space that complements the Palm Beach lifestyle.

What to Order

The cuisine is “typical Italian and inspired by the freshness,” says executive chef Marco Barbisotti. Menu offerings include Vitello Tonnato, which is slow-roasted, thinly sliced veal topped with tuna-caper sauce. The spaghetti alla Carbonara (pasta with pancetta, organic egg, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and black pepper) is also a must. Special to this location is the option to order thin, crispy crust pizza. Try the Tartufata, which is served with taleggio cheese and black truffle topped with a cracked organic egg yolk.

Chef Barbisotti also serves a risotto of the day, so customers can enjoy a variety of flavors. As for the main courses, guests have ample dishes to choose from. The “Simply Cooked” section  on the menu offers fresh salmon from Scotland, wild Dover Sole from France and filet mignon grilled or seared. “We aren’t a steakhouse, but we give you the best steak we can provide,” Barbisotti says. For customers who don’t think they can go to an Italian restaurant and have a great steak, Sant Ambroeus  proves otherwise.

Additional Treats

To the right of the restaurant’s entry, guests can also order in a quaint cafe setting with seating perfect for a quick grab-and-go bite or a relaxed lunch. There are displays of caprese panini, plus house-made croissants, cakes, assorted cookies and more.

Guests in need of a gelato fix will find a fresh batch is made daily. Choose from flavors like Coppa San Marco, which features hazelnut gelato with hot espresso, or Taglio Al Limone made with lemon sorbet and prosecco. Plus, take a seat at the bar or one of the cocktail tables to mix and mingle.
