Wellington’s Polo Bar & Grill Brings Fresh Ingredients To Every Dish

Polo season is in full swing with teams heading to Palm Beach Polo & Country Club every Sunday to compete, but they’re not the only ones scoring points.

Polo Bar & Grill, Polo West Golf and Equestrian Club’s new restaurant in Wellington, opened in the fall, offering fresh, farm-to-table cuisine. The concept comes from power couple Gary Fellers and Jeannette Sassoon, veteran equestrians and owners of the brand Polo Gear.

Formal dining and bar seating are indoor options, but a seat on the outside patio offers views of a 12-acre polo field and driving range. The vibe is elegant and low-key—the perfect combination to foster relaxation.

The menu, executed by executive chef Victor Irizarry, features locally sourced ingredients from vendors chosen by quality and proximity to the restaurant. Most vegetable and organic products are bought from Swank Farms in Loxahatchee.

Freshness is noticeable, even in the cocktails. Order the Knock-In Nolet’s Lemonade, and sip the sweet concoction before digging into an appetizer.

Large parties should start with a flatbread, and options include a classic Margherita, BBQ Chicken, made with caramelized red onions, Gouda and guava barbecue sauce, and the Wild Mushroom & Bleu Cheese, topped with a fig balsamic glaze drizzle.

Entrée favorites range from the wild-caught fish of the day served with roasted vegetable hash in a citrus compound butter, to the New York strip or the grass-fed Angus beef burger. Vegetarians can opt for the spinach and mushroom penne pasta, made with heirloom tomatoes, fresh spinach, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

And for dessert, plan on stopping by at least every few months for rotating flavors of Mike’s Seasonal Cheesecake.

Polo Bar & Grill is not only the place to eat local, but it’s also a gathering spot for the community. Every Thursday evening the restaurant hosts “Big Dogs Night Out” in partnership with Big Dog Ranch Rescue to raise funds and awareness for the organization. The events feature dog training, obedience, agility, scent, puppy, up dog, rally and Frisbee classes, and adoptable dogs are brought in every week.
