In the Palm Beaches, October promises many things: slightly cooler temps, tricks, treats and the soft start of season. It’s also a reason to dedicate time and funding to a disease that affects more than 266,000 women each year.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Palm Beach County offers several ways for locals to get involved, gain awareness and raise funds for breast cancer research. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite events below, so all you have to do is show up wearing something pink.
The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
Since 1993, more than 13 million walkers across the United States have raised over $810 million in the name of breast cancer research through Making Strides events. Palm Beach County is home to two of these walks, both of which require little more than walking sneakers and a fundraising goal. The South Palm Beach Walk will take place on Oct. 14 at 8:30 a.m. at Boca Raton’s Florida Atlantic University, and the Palm Beach Walk takes place on Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. at Meyer Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach. Registrants commit to raising funds for the organization and take part in a noncompetitive 3- to 5-mile walk as an individual or as part of a team. Find out more information at makingstrides.acsevents.org.
