A Girlfriend Getaway

See why the Eau Spa has been ranked one of the top spas in the world.

Why is it that even the simplest things are never easy? Especially planning a girlfriend getaway, in spite of the fact it was just for one day and only three girls. Schedules of husbands, kids, parents and work had to be juggled just for one special day – time together at the spa, time for the three Rs: reconnection, relaxation and reflection.

Worth it? You bet. And what better venue to plan a girlfriend getaway than the Eau Spa, Palm Beach’s newest addition.

Named as one of the top 15 spas by both Condé Nast Traveler and Town & Country, Eau Spa prides itself on its “wow” factor, and yes, the three of us were “wowed.” Greeted with ever-flowing flutes of Champagne, we were guided to Eau Spa’s wishing well and provided floating candles to make a wish. Toasting to life and being together, we quietly made our secret aspirations as we placed our floating candles in their beautiful pond.

Escorted into the treatment area, we meandered through Eau Spa’s Self-Centered Garden – an adults-only area with dipping pools, hanging chairs, cabanas and lush gardens, making you crave time to just “hang out” and listen to the Ibizan music from that sexy island off the coast of Spain.

I always thought being self-centered was a negative trait, but this spa makes no apologies. Its philosophy? This is a place to celebrate yourself with “me time.” Made sense – we were here to indulge ourselves, if only to recharge for others in our lives. Giggling at the thought of being “self-centered,” we all bought into it.

Nibbling on decadent miniature cupcakes in the Relaxation Lounge – and yes, more Champagne – we pondered which treatments we would choose to pamper ourselves. Awarded by American Spa magazine as Best Treatment Menu for the last two years, there was indeed a fabulous array of spa menu options. Royal Recovery? Eau Spa Signature? Hot stones? Self-Centered Massage? Imperial Geisha? Champagne Shimmer Body Luster? Too many choices and too little time. The girls nodded in silent agreement – this menu demanded a return trip – but that is another story.

Whisked away to our own private Orchid Garden Villa named “Villa Naughty,” my instincts (probably inspired by Champagne) told me that new girlfriend secrets would emerge after our adventure. Eau Spa’s Garden Villas described as “opulent private boudoirs” are not an exaggeration. Beautifully landscaped patios, ensconced in privacy for that outdoor bubble bath, shower or intimate meal.

Post massage with our skin soft and glowing again, we were relaxed enough not to mentally check our to-do list or even bother to check our electronics. We sipped our “Hidden Pleasure” and mocha martinis, while dining in the outdoor splendor of the Self-Centered Garden, pontificating on each other’s philosophical life journeys, variable paths of careers and marriage. If only for a moment, it seemed as though we just might solve some world problems – or at the very least, the next day’s schedules.

As the venerable hottie Mae West once remarked, “You’re never too old to become younger.” I agree. Make your own getaway plan – you “Eau it” to yourself!
