Best Buddies International will host its 2022 Champion of the Year Gala on October 28 at the Hilton West Palm Beach, from 6 to 10 p.m. The nonprofit was founded in 1989 by Anthony K. Shriver to establish a global volunteer movement that fosters one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The 2022 Champion of the Year Gala celebrates the efforts of local leaders and their “best buddies,” who have raised funds throughout the year to support local Best Buddies programs and participants. Guests will have the opportunity to participate in both silent and live auctions, featuring gifts of travel, sports, art, spas, golf, and more. The sophisticated evening will also include dinner, cocktails, dancing, a keynote address from a Best Buddies Ambassador, and an awards ceremony.
Jupiter resident Jena Sims will serve as the event’s Honorary Chair. Sims is the founder and president of HBBQ (Has-Been Beauty Queens), Inc., the 501c3 that organizes Pageant of Hope. She has worked with Best Buddies since 2007, after being crowned Miss Georgia Teen USA. Sims’ husband, professional golfer Brooks Koepka, is also a Best Buddies supporter and has been known to break out in dance with some of the Buddies at this event. The Best Buddies Gala will include a pageant performance by the girls from Pageant of Hope.
This year’s Gala will also welcome a star-studded array of Champions, a group of local leaders who raise funds with their Mission Partners to impact local Best Buddies programs. The meritus list includes Annette Givens, Howard Minsky, and Carri Oosterbaan.
