On Jan. 8 at the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach, Oscar de la Renta creative director Peter Copping will debut the Spring 2016 Collection with a show hosted by Hospice Foundation of Palm Beach and Saks Fifth Avenue. The famous designer selected Copping to continue his legacy before his passing last year. We caught up with Copping to discuss his first spring line with the brand, his relationship with de la Renta and plans for the future.

My intention when designing the spring 2016 line was to…Capture the spirit of Oscar.

When creating the line, I was inspired by…The Hispanic Society in Harlem.

The fabrics I favored are…Lace and radzimir (and our 2016 carnation prints).

The colors I incorporated are…Ruby, seafoam, jet black and a highlight of mandarin.

What shoppers need to know about the line is…There are many more great pieces in the collection than what appears on the runway.

My favorite piece is…Looks 18, 29, 59 (featured below).

The first time I met Oscar de la Renta was…At Grace Coddington’s birthday party at Indochine.

I like to think he chose me because…He knew I would take the house forward while respecting his legacy.

When I’m in Florida in January to debut the line, I’m most excited to…Discover the state and the people—it’s my first time.

When it comes to my personal style, you’ll likely find me wearing…A cashmere sweater and jeans.

I first realized how much I enjoyed fashion when…I was more interested in my sister’s Barbies than she was.

What inspires me most are…Different museums around the world.

Moving forward, Oscar de la Renta customers can expect…Beautiful clothes.
