News And Gourmet Combines Home Décor and Coffee

At The Breakers Palm Beach, everything is done in grandiose style. From its 20,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor spa to the architectural splendor of The Circle, there’s a reason the iconic property earns awards and accolades year after year. So, when it came time to remodel one of its boutiques in late 2018, News & Gourmet, the hotel turned to the exceptional Michael Neuman and Associates design firm to get the job done.

The boutique’s former dark wooden palette transformed into a bright, modern backdrop for the shop’s selection of gifts and home decor from around the world. Locals and resort guests alike can enjoy seeking and finding new treasures to bring home.

Take for example the homeware brand Dinosaur Designs, created by a husband-and-wife duo from Australia. “Moody” blues and whites swirl into a vibrant coloration on resin stone bowls, platters and serving utensils.

Then there’s Primitive Twig based out of New York. The artists collect antique American, French and German doll heads along with vintage tins, wind-up toys and salt shakers, and assembles them into elaborate, one-of-a-kind creations like candlesticks.

Shop an array of home decor paying homage to rainforests to equestrian life, plus a line of vibrant safari art sculptures made out of recycled flip flops from Swahili Modern.

Shoppers can stock up on numerous items from specialty greeting cards to Italian linen hostess napkins, as well as purchase a bottle of the hotel’s famous private-label wine blended by the property’s master sommelier.

But before uncorking a bottle, stop by the shop’s new coffee bar. “When we changed out News & Gourmet our goal was to make this a real Seattle-style coffee shop,” says John Zoller, senior vice president of retail operations.

That meant bringing a Modbar system to the coffee shop to pump out espresso and pour-over favorites.

And, of course, there’s no News & Gourmet without its bookstore. Browse a handful of bestsellers and the latest magazines before heading out to the Palm Courtyard or the pool. Or snag a coffee table book from Assouline to add that final comforting touch in your home.
