Newly opened in Jupiter, Saltbird Kitchen & Bar offers a taste of down-home cooking. Grab a table and start with the fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese dip. The tomatoes come out crisp with a bright, slightly tart edge, and the pimento cheese is sharp and creamy, served with celery and herbed crackers that are perfect for grazing. When it comes to mains, the fried chicken is the menu’s anchor—golden, crunchy, and juicy. The shrimp and grits lean richer, with a savory depth of flavor. For dessert, go with the humble (but rewarding) bread pudding. Topped with pecans, a caramel drizzle, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it’s messy in the best way.
There’s also a built-in reason to return to Saltbird. Tuesdays bring a rotating Fat Tuesday menu—think gumbo, red beans and rice, po’ boys—while Sunday nights (6 to 9 p.m.) shift into live jazz from the Jupiter Jazz Society.
